Catalog Description

The Esthetician Certificate of Achievement is a 600-hour program divided into two300-hour courses designed to prepare the student for the California State Board Esthetician Examination for state licensure and success as a cosmetician and/or esthetician. Course includes both classroom instruction and laboratory practice.Successful completion of this course and successful completion of the California State Board Esthetician Examination will allow the graduate cosmetician/esthetician to perform manual and electrical facials, micro dermabrasion, eyebrow arching and hair removal(other than by electrolysis) on arms, face and legs, or become a make-up artist or skin care representative. A variable unit course offered on an open-entry/open-exit basis with a required minimum number of combined lecture/lab hours per week.

Program Goal

The Esthetician program is six hundred (600) hours of intensive training and study designed to prepare the student to take the California State Board Esthetician Examination for licensure. Units include theory and practice in fundamental skills in all phases of skincare, hair removal, and makeup application. Assignment of units is based on hours in attendance. Transfer students will be accepted on a space-available basis providing they have not achieved more than 300 certified hours of training.

 

A career as an esthetician offers individuals personal satisfaction in one of the nation’s largest service industries. It provides a pleasant environment with year-round employment and full-time and part-time employment opportunities. Licensed graduates may be employed as make-up artists, hair waxing removal specialists,receptionists, retail and cosmetic buyers. With continuing education and experience licensed cosmetologists may find employment as salon managers or owners, facial specialists, eyelash extension technicians, manufacturers’ field representatives, demonstrators and lecturers, dermatology offices, and laboratory technicians.

 

This program is offered on an open enrollment basis and a waiting list may be maintained for those students who desire to enroll. Students may attend on apart-time or full-time basis.

This concentrated program requires successful completion of the listed two courses for achievement of the certificate of achievement.  The associates of science degree requires the courses described in addition to satisfactory completion of  GE coursework.
