Instrumentation Technology (094300)
08/12/25
The Instrumentation Technology Certificate of Achievement is designed to prepare students with comprehensive, manipulative and technical skills for diagnosing and maintaining a diverse assortment of precision instruments and equipment that are essential for the functioning of various industries, including mineral extraction and geothermal operations. The primary focus is on ensuring that industrial instruments and equipment operate at peak efficiency and accuracy.

Program Proposal Attributes
- Certificate of Achievement: 16 or greater semester (or 24 or greater quarter) units (C)
The Certificate of Achievement in Instrumentation Technology is the third phase of the mineral extraction programs (lithium) developed in consultation with industry to develop a qualified workforce as companies begin to hire technicians. The COE LMI report did not identify sufficient data to produce a report for Imperial County. The regional LMI is attached. As with previous lithium related programs, the local program necessity and support is documented via industry letters of support and employment projections. Letters are also attached. The timing for completers of the new certificate aligns with those industry projections.

Imperial Valley College submitted the appropriate LMI from the COE. Because there was no data for Imperial County for the selected occupation, the area was expanded to San Diego County. We suggest using employer letters to address the lack of data for Imperial County. For this reason, the COE defers to the region because 1) there is a potential supply gap; and 2) entry-level earnings are above the living wage. The colleges should also note that employers typically require a high school diploma or equivalent as the minimum educational requirement for this occupation.
