This certificate requires completion of the following courses: MTRK 101: Maintenance and Inspection, MTRK 156a: Medium/heavy truck electrical/electronic systems I, MTRK 164: Medium/heavy truck chassis service, diagnosis and repair, and MTRK 160: Medium/heavy truck hydraulics. Intended for students seeking an entry level position in the medium and heavy duty truck service and repair industry. This certificate includes topics that are crucial for an entry level technician to be knowledgeable and proficient in. These topics include: basic shop and equipment handling and safety procedures, proper documentation of repair orders, preventative maintenance inspections, knowledge of basic electrical circuits and how to use a digital multimeter, air brakes inspections and repairs, tire services, suspension alignments and maintenance, and hydraulic component maintenance and repairs. Upon completion of this certificate, students will be prepared to take their T4, T5, and T8 ASE certifications.

Program Goal

The goal of this certificate is to create a pathway for technicians to enter the workforce with the proper training to prepare them for entry level positions within the medium and heavy duty truck industry. Completion of this certificate prepares students to be proficient at completing tasks such as: basic shop and equipment handling and safety procedures, proper documentation of repair orders, preventative maintenance inspections, knowledge of basic electrical circuits and how to use a digital multimeter, air brakes inspections and repairs, tire services, suspension alignments and maintenance, and hydraulic component maintenance and repairs. Job titles that students can be prepared for with this certificate include: Entry level diesel technician, diesel lube technician, heavy equipment/hydraulic technician, heavy truck tire technician, heavy truck alignment specialist.
