As a Registered Respiratory Therapist, you have the opportunity to advance your career with the Bachelor of Science in Respiratory Therapy program at LAVC. This program will prepare you to handle complex respiratory cases, conduct research, and lead health care teams. You will benefit from the guidance of experts in the field and the exposure to the most current industry standards and best practices. Upon graduation, you will have the skills and knowledge to succeed in various settings and roles within the respiratory care profession. Our program goal is to enhance your knowledge, skills, and attributes in areas such as leadership, management, education, research, and advanced clinical practice. This will help you to achieve your current professional goals and prepare you to practice as advanced degree respiratory therapists.
30 students will be able to enroll each year. Hoping to have 90% of the students complete the program which is 27 completers.
Program Proposal Attributes
- Baccalaureate of Science (B.S.) Degree
- To provide graduates of entry into respiratory care professional practice degree programs with additional knowledge, skills, and attributes in leadership, management, education, research, and/or advanced clinical practice that will enable them to meet their current professional goals and prepare them for practice as advance degree respiratory therapists.

Course Report
- All applicants must be a graduate of a Commission on Accreditation for Respiratory Care (CoARC)-accredited Respiratory Care Program (such as the Associate of Science in Respiratory Therapy at LAVC) with a minimum GPA 2.5.
- All eligible students must:
- have completed a minimum of 30 units of the CSU General Education pattern.
- Be admitted to Los Angeles Valley College (LAVC)
- Complete the CSU-GE Breadth transfer pattern (39 units)
- Possessing a Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) credential is desired.

New Program
We currently offer a Associate of Science in Respiratory Therapy. Our new program extends the pathway for students to earn a Bachelors of Science degree in Respiratory Therapy.
El Camino college has a BSRT program and ELAC is in the process of developing one.
A cohort of 30 students will be enrolled per year.
Health Science
