Program Goal

To provide students with a comprehensive understanding of the principles and practices of social media marketing. - Objective 1.1: Students will analyze foundational marketing principles through the completion of BusAD 162 Principles of Marketing. - Objective 1.2: Students will apply essential skills in social media marketing concepts, strategies, and tools through BusAD 163 Social Media Marketing I. - Objective 1.3: Students will evaluate advanced social media marketing techniques and analytics through BusAD 165 Social Media Marketing II. To prepare students for entry-level positions in social media planning and buying. - Objective 2.1: Students will  describe the application of marketing principles and social media strategies to real-world scenarios. - Objective 2.2: Students will execute practical experience in social media planning and buying processes through hands-on projects and case studies. - Objective 2.3: Students will utilize social media analytics tools to assess and optimize marketing campaigns. To foster critical thinking, creativity, and ethical decision-making in social media marketing practices. - Objective 3.1: Students will assess and evaluate social media marketing campaigns to determine their effectiveness and impact. - Objective 3.2: Students will generate innovative ideas and solutions for resolving challenges in social media planning and buying. - Objective 3.3: Students will identify ethical awareness and responsibility in their approach to social media marketing strategies and campaigns.  To support students in developing effective communication and collaboration skills for professional success. - Objective 4.1: Students will identify social media marketing insights effectively through written reports, presentations, and digital media. - Objective 4.2: Students will collaborate with peers to brainstorm ideas, solve problems, and execute social media marketing projects. - Objective 4.3: Students will interact with industry professionals and networks to gain insights and opportunities for career advancement in social media marketing. Program Requirements Narrative

The Social Media Marketing I program is a 9-unit certificate designed to provide students with foundational knowledge and skills in marketing principles and social media strategies. Students will develop expertise in leveraging social media platforms to promote products, services, and brands effectively. Completion of the program requires taking all three of the following courses:

  1. BUSAD 162 - Principles of Marketing (3 units).This course introduces students to the fundamental concepts of marketing, including market research, consumer behavior, product development, pricing strategies, distribution channels, and promotional activities. It lays the groundwork for understanding how marketing principles apply to various industries and business contexts.

  2. BUSAD 163 - Social Media Marketing I (3 units). This course focuses on the basics of social media marketing, emphasizing the use of popular platforms such as Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, and LinkedIn. Students will learn how to create engaging content, build brand awareness, and implement campaigns that drive customer interaction and loyalty.

  3. BUSAD 165 - Social Media Marketing II (3 units). Building on the foundation of Social Media Marketing I, this advanced course delves deeper into strategies for optimizing social media presence. Topics include analytics, advertising, influencer partnerships, and advanced campaign management to maximize return on investment (ROI) for businesses.

By completing these courses, students will gain practical, hands-on experience and the theoretical knowledge necessary to excel in entry-level roles in social media marketing or enhance the digital marketing efforts of their own businesses.
