This certificate prepares students for the California Veterinary Medical Board RVT Licensing Exam. Students must also complete the CVMB requiredclinic hours by working in a veterinary hospital/clinic. Students who do not choose to become licensed RVT’s are still able to work in the field as Animal Health Technicians. Upon completion of the required courses with at least a ‘C’ or ‘P’ grade in each course, the student will be eligible for a Job Skills Certificate.Program learning outcomes, 1. Upon successful completion of the program, the student will be able to demonstrate proficiency in animal care procedures and skills required foremployment and enhancement of opportunities and success in the veterinary/pet care industry. 2. Upon successful completion of the program, the student will be able to assess each patient and create a differential list of the possible causes foreach condition presented. 3. Upon successful completion of the program, the student will be able to operate common imaging modalities used in veterinary medicine. 4. Upon successful completion of the program, the student will be able to implement treatment programs and advise owners regarding aftercarefor the patient.

The Registered Veterinary Technician program connects with Bakersfield College mission to supply skilled qualified professionals that can beemployed by businesses in the community.The population in the county has grown significantly over the past 20 years and it continues to groweach year. The small animal population continues to grow and there is a continued need for Registered Vetrinary Technicians in small animalpractices in the area.
