Catalog Description

The Entrepreneurial Management Certificate of Achievement equips students with the business, financial, legal, and marketing skills necessary to launch and operate a small business. The program integrates business planning with practical skill-building and hands-on exposure to real-world entrepreneurial scenarios. This program serves as an excellent pathway into our AS-T degree in Business Administration, or AA degree in Business Administration.  

After completing this certificate in Entrepreneurial Management, a student will be able to:  

  • Communication: Demonstrate effective oral and written communication skills by presenting business ideas, proposals, and plans clearly to diverse audiences, including stakeholders, clients, and team members. 

  • Cognition: Apply critical thinking and problem-solving skills to analyze business challenges, evaluate alternatives, and make sound entrepreneurial decisions. 

  • Information Literacy and Technological Competency: Use digital tools, software, and credible information sources to research markets, develop financial forecasts, and integrate technology into entrepreneurial strategies. 

  • Social Responsibility and Ethics: Evaluate the ethical, social, and cultural implications of business decisions and demonstrate responsible leadership in entrepreneurial practices.

These courses are currently being offered to our dual enrollment partners, which average about 25-35 students per cohort. Given our strong enrollment numbers in dual enrollment, the overall demand and market data, we expect to have 20-30 completion certificates annually.

The goal of the Certificate of Achievement in Entrepreneurial Management is to prepare students for real-world entrepreneurial success by delivering skills in business development, management, finance, marketing, and legal compliance. Students will explore business plan creation, financial forecasting, legal frameworks, and sales strategy, aligned with current industry practices.

Program Requirements Narrative

The objective of the program is to equip students with applied knowledge and entrepreneur competencies needed to create and manage successful ventures in service to their communities and the broader economy. Students will gain a foundation in core business areas while cultivating the ability to adapt and respond effectively to the dynamic challenges of entrepreneurship. 

Students are introduced to organizational behavior, business ethics, communication strategies, and the integration of technology into management practices. The program emphasizes the development of interpersonal and decision-making skills that support effective collaboration, ethical leadership, and sustainable professional growth. 

Upon completion of this program a student should be able to:  

  • Create and evaluate a comprehensive business plan. 

  • Apply principles of financial management to small business operations. 

  • Understand and comply with relevant legal regulations and business law. 

  • Demonstrate entrepreneurial thinking and decision-making skills in business contexts. 

Upon completion of this certificate, students will be prepared for careers as entrepreneurs and small business owners.

Harbor College has similar management or entrepreneur certificates in both credit and noncredit areas. This certificate is based on the community needs of our dual enrollment partners.  

List similar programs at other colleges in the Los Angeles Region

Santa Monica College, Pasadena City College, El Camino College, and Glendale Community College offer similar programs to our proposed entrepreneurial management certificate. Within the LACCD, West, City, and Pierce College offer similar programs. Although program offerings, courses, and certificates are similarthis proposed certificate of achievement is specific to our dual enrollment partners.
