The Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) Certificate Program provides foundational skills for individuals pursuing a career in emergency medical services. This program offers essential EMT training in emergency response and pre-hospital care, while also emphasizing interpersonal communication skills for effective interactions with patients and healthcare teams. This prepares the EMT to conduct a patient interview more efficiently. Additionally, students learn strategies for stress management and personal well-being to help maintain resilience and mental health in high-stakes, high-stress environments, preparing them for both the technical and personal demands of a career in emergency response.
50 students per year.

- Certificate of Achievement: 16 or greater semester (or 24 or greater quarter) units (C)
The goal of this program is to:
- Differentiate communication skills and technology to support patient needs, decision making and documentation of care.
- Differentiate theoretical concepts and best current evidence to provide safe care while advocating for patients and families across the lifespan.
- Evaluate accountability and responsibility for emergency care practice, employing professionalism in the role of the Emergency Medical Technician.
- Maintain personal wellbeing in a stressful work environment.

This certificate of achievement is comprised of three courses: The basic EMT training course, interpersonal communications, and a course in stress management and personal well being. Together, these courses prepare an individual for success while employed in the high stakes and high stress medical emergency response field.
