Networking Administrator Essentials
New Program
Computer Networking (070810)
08/17/26
This program prepares students for entry-level positions in cybersecurity or computer networking. Nowadays, almost all jobs require network administrators to have security experience. Furthermore, many software developments need individuals with CompTIA Security+ certificates. The core requirements for the certificate include preparation for industrial coveted Comp TIA A+ (basic computer Hardware/Software), CompTIA Network+, and CompTIA Security+. These industrial certificates are essential for all cybersecurity, networking, cloud, operating system administrators, or software development areas.
Estimated completers 25 per year starting year one.
Program Proposal Attributes
- Certificate of Achievement: 8 to fewer than 16 semester (or 12 to fewer than 24 quarter) units (B)
Cybersecurity is a crucial CTE field, and this certificate seeks to train students in the key three CompTIA industrial certificates that companies seek. The cybersecurity field became critical to corporate America before colleges could respond with similar traditional 4-year or 2-year degrees. The Computing Technology Industry Association, commonly known as CompTIA, is an American non-profit trade association that issues professional certifications for the information technology industry. The three CompTIA certificates A+ (basic HW/Server competence), Network+ (Computer Networking), and Security (basic cybersecurity terminology) became the three certificates that companies search for when hiring. By completing this certificate, students will achieve competencies in three critical industrial exams for Cybersecurity.
This low-unit certificate also provides a stepping stone, or stackable certificate to other related CIM (Computer Information Management) programs such as the 21-unit certificate Cybersecurity/Information security Analyst or 18-unit Network Administrator AS degree or certificate. In both cases, all three courses in this certificate can be applied directly to the other two higher-unit certificates
