  • Certificate of Achievement: 8 to fewer than 16 semester (or 12 to fewer than 24 quarter) units (B)
Program Goal
Goals: The current preferred method of providing programming for children with special needs is inclusion within the regular classroom with their peers. This requires all professionals working with children to secure knowledge in special education. State funded ECE programs in California require teaching and administrative staff to hold a Child Development Permit. The Master Teacher Permit level requires students to select a specialization area and complete two courses in that area. This Certificate of Achievement will prepare students with the basic information regarding the overall development of children and details regarding the types of special needs along with the basic principles for the field and specifics of curriculum and strategies to support learning for children with special needs. Objectives: This Certificate of Achievement will examine the types of special needs in comparison with the typical development of children. This Certificate of Achievement will demonstrate how knowledge of the types of special needs is used to provide curriculum and utilize strategies to support learning.
