The Adult and Juvenile Correctional and Probation Officer Certificate of Achievement prepares students for careers as officers in adult and juvenile detention facilities, as well as probation departments. Students who complete the Certificate of Achievement meet the Corrections Standards Authority and Board of State and Community Corrections requirements for entry-level corrections and probation officers. This program prepares students for legal issues in dealing with incarcerated offenders as well as supervision of inmates, transportation, report writing, and blood borne pathogens. Students are also prepared for receiving and releasing of inmates, weaponless defense, and probation supervision.
Program Student Learning Outcomes:
1. Upon successful completion of the program, the student will be able to assess the components of discretionary decision-making in probation and correctional settings.
2. Upon successful completion of the program, the student will be able to analyze the legal and ethical responsbiilities for correctional and probation officers in adult and juvenile correctional settings.
3. Upon successful completion of the program, the student will be able to assess tactics and strategies for effective supervision in adult and juvenile correctional and community supervision facilities.
One hundred (100) are expected to enroll in this Program. Eighty-five (85) students are projected to complete annually.

- Certificate of Achievement: 16 or greater semester (or 24 or greater quarter) units (C)
The proposed program assists local corrections agencies in ensuring they select qualified personnel and train them to a statewide standard to support proficient job performance. The program will provide students with job-related skills standards which will also help protect agencies from failure to train properly. Job relatedness is provided through regular and frequent student assessments. Additional goals include providing students with the skills to supervise adults and juveniles in county custody in a safe and humane manner. Students will also learn the requirements and skills for the custody, supervision, treatment and rehabilitation of perssons in custody and under probation supervision.
