The Certificate of Achievement in Computer Information Systems – Data Applications prepares students with practical skills used in modern business environments for organizing, analyzing, and presenting data. Students gain hands-on experience using databases, structured query language (SQL), data reporting tools, and data visualization technologies to transform raw information into meaningful reports and dashboards that support organizational decision-making. Coursework emphasizes applied problem solving, data organization, and the use of widely used adopted business and data analysis software. This certificate prepares students for entry-level roles involving business data support, reporting, database management, and data visualization in a variety of organizational settings.
The program is expected to enroll 20–30 students annually, with 10–25 completers per year based on current CIS enrollment trends.

New Program
This program complements existing Computer Information Systems and Computer Science offerings by providing a workforce-focused pathway in databases, SQL, reporting, and data visualization. The program also supports the proposed Associate of Arts in Computer Information Systems through stackable coursework and aligned program pathways.
Similar data analytics, database, business intelligence, and data visualization programs are offered throughout the Los Angeles region; however, this program provides a locally accessible and workforce-focused pathway aligned with East Los Angeles College student and regional employer needs.
The program is expected to serve new and continuing students seeking workforce preparation in business data applications, databases, reporting, SQL, and data visualization while complementing existing CIS and CS pathways.
