Sports Medicine Certificate

This certificate in sports medicine provides students the foundational knowledge necessary to prepare them to apply for masters of Athletic Training programs and move into the profession of Athletic Training. The certificate will provide hands on experience of injury prevention, rehabilitation, mechanisms of injury, assessments, and appropriate care. Students will have an opportunity to work in the Bakersfield College athletic training room to gain experience and work directly with athletes. The Sports Medicine Certificate is a two semester, 16 credit certificate of achievement, which includes a work based internship. All coursework will include Kinesiology (KINSB1A, KINSB2A, KINSB3A, KINSB3B, KINSB48WE) which are requirements of the Kinesiology AA-T and can be used to continue course work at the California State University and University California levels. The certificate of achievement is created to be a stackable component with the Associate Science Transfer Degree. The curriculum is designed to be flexible enough to support students in various stages of their academic and career paths.
To Achieve the Certificate of Achievement:
Upon completion of the following courses with at least a 'C' grade in each course, the student will be awarded a Certificate of Achievement.
It is projected that initially 20-30 students will enroll in and complete the Certificate of Achievement annually.

Course Report
The proposed start date for the Sports medicine Certificate is fall 2023. Courses will be offered in a two semester format. Course offering will begin in the fall of 2023. Students will enter the program in the fall semester. It is projected that initially 20-30 students will enroll in and complete the Certificate of Achievement annually. The sports Medicine Certificate will be a stackable certificate to the AA-T Kinesiology.
Students must obtain a minimum grade point average of 2.0 with a grade of 'C' or higher in all courses required for the Certificate of Achievement.
