Certified Phlebotomy Technician Job Skills Certificate

This course equips aspiring phlebotomists and those pursuing medical careers with the foundational knowledge, skills, and professional attitudes needed for success in medical laboratory settings. Through hands-on practice, instructor guidance, and a clinical practicum, students build confidence in blood collection techniques. Key topics covered include communication, medical terminology, specimen collection, basic anatomy and physiology, and managing venipuncture complications. The curriculum aligns with National Health Career Association (NHA) standards, preparing students for the Phlebotomy Technician Certification Examination.
Upon completion of the required courses with at least a “C” or “P” (pass) grade in each course, the student will be eligible for a Job Skills Certificate.
We will enroll 16 students twice per year with projected 28 yearly completions.

Program Learning Outcomes
1. Upon successful completion of the program, the student will be able to distinguish legal issues related to blood collection.
2. Upon successful completion of the program, the student will be able to perform and document instrument and equipment maintenance.
3. Upon successful completion of the program, the student will be able to collect and perform point-of-care testing (POCT) following all standard operating procedures.
4. Upon successful completion of the program, the student will be able to demonstrate the use of blood collection equipment, types of tubes, and the proper order of draw when additives are required.
5. Upon successful completion of the program, the student will be able to distinguish the proper selection and preparation of the skin puncture site.
6. Upon successful completion of the program, the student will be able to demonstrate blood withdraw using standard precautions.
