The Theatre Arts Directing Certificate offers a comprehensive pathway for emerging
directors to cultivate their craft and launch their careers in professional theatre. This
rigorous program recognizes the intense competition within the directing field and equips
students with a blend of theoretical knowledge and hands-on experience. At the heart of
the curriculum are essential directorial competencies, including:
Advanced script analysis and interpretation, Innovative concept/approach development
and artistic vision, Strategic pre-production planning and management, Nuanced casting
techniques and actor collaboration, Effective communication with designers and technical
teams, Mastery of rehearsal processes, from first read-through to final performance,
Sophisticated blocking and stage composition, Navigation of technical rehearsals and

This immersive program goes beyond traditional classroom learning, offering students

coursework that can serve as a foundation for further studies at four-year institutions. This
creates pathways for continued education and career advancement. The Certificate of
Achievement in Directing for Theatre combines theoretical knowledge with practical
application to prepare students for careers in directing while addressing the specific needs
