Catalog Description
Web designers create and manage websites. They are responsible for the look and performance of the site, such as a website’s appearance, features and functionality. Web Designers can also create and organize a website’s content. The Certificate in Web Design is a hands-on program providing design-focused instruction in the principles, practices, tools, and mechanics of building modern websites. Production and software skills are developed through the research, design, development, and testing of complex, professional-quality websites. Other skills covered include visual design, website promotion using search engine optimization and social media marketing, HTML, Cascading Style Sheets, portfolio production, and industry internships. Student Learning outcomes After completing this Web Designer Certificate students will be able to: 1.Hand-code attractive and effective websites using CSS, HTML5 and JavaScript. 2. Effectively communicate ideas on a web page using visual contrast, proportion, and harmony. 3. Use visual composition to balance the form and function of web page components 4. Create responsive web pages that look correct on all devices. 5. Apply advanced CSS skills to create professional-level web page layouts and user interfaces
Enrollment Completer Projections
We expect 50 - 60 students to take Web Design courses per year with 5-10 students earning a Web Design Certificate.

Program Goal
The Multimedia Studies Program prepares students to fill roles as professionals in the digital media industry and has provided CTE instruction to College of Marin’s students for many years. Recent digital media labor market and workforce data indicates a strong demand for community college students with software and design skills for employment as web designers, front-end developers, interface designers, app developers, content marketers, and graphic designers. Additional skill sets in SEO, eLearning, or mobile media could make them more competitive in the job market.
