Catalog Description

This program is intended for individuals to enter the tax profession and enable them to prepare tax returns for the general public. In addition, hands-on experience in the form of supervised tax preparation through an internship or SMC's Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program provides real-world knowledge.

 

Program Learning Outcomes: Upon completion of the program, students will demonstrate a range of tax preparation skills required to complete both Federal and State tax returns for individuals.

Program Goal

Program Requirements Narrative

The certificate will require 10 unit in tax education and ethics which are essential to tax practitioners. Some of the elective courses focus on managing and marketing education to assist tax practitioners operate their own tax practice or manage a tax practice. Additionally, some of the other elective courses focus on applying business technology and software that will be needed to successfully operate and manage a tax practice.
