Catalog Description

The Agriculture Systems Management (ASM) Associate of Science Degree prepares students for careers at the intersection of agriculture, technology, and management. Students develop practical skills in agricultural equipment systems, water and irrigation management, precision agriculture, and sustainable resource practices, with an emphasis on industry needs in California’s Central Valley. The program combines technical training with leadership and business principles to prepare students for employment in agricultural operations, technical services, and environmental resource management. Graduates are also equipped to transfer to CSU programs in Agricultural Systems Management, Agricultural Engineering Technology, or related fields.

Enrollment Completer Projections

Enrollment and Completer Projections – Projections address the expected number of students who enroll and complete annually.

1. Year 1 Enrollment: 15-20 students

2. Annual Completion: 8-12 students completing the Certificate of Achievement

3. Annual Completion: 5-8 students completing the Associate of Science degree

As regional awareness of the program grows and articulation agreements with universities and local high schools are expanded, enrollment is expected to steadily increase.

The Agriculture Systems Management Automation program is designed with dual goals:

To prepare students for immediate employment in agricultural operations, equipment management, irrigation systems, and precision agriculture technologies.

To establish a strong academic foundation for students planning to transfer into a bachelor's degree program in Agricultural Systems Management, Agricultural Engineering, Industrial Technology, or related fields.

Students will gain skills in the technical operation of agricultural systems as well as knowledge of business management, electronics, and sustainable practices that align with current industry and academic standards.

1. Demonstrate foundational technical skills in the operation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of agricultural machinery, irrigation systems, and automation technologies.

2. Apply principles of agricultural economics, business management, and accounting to decision-making processes within agricultural enterprises.

4. Analyze agricultural systems and processes through critical thinking, problem-solving, and data interpretation to support sustainable and efficient practices.
