Catalog Description

The Business Data Analytics [Certificate of Achievement/Associate of Science Degree] is designed to develop emerging skills required for positions in data collection, data processing, and data analysis, and to provide a foundation for future training in data science and big data analysis, which are becoming increasingly required in the business environment. Upon completion of this certificate, students demonstrate the use of a variety of artificial intelligence tools and data analysis methodologies. The courses in the program provide students with the skills to work with others to manage large projects, design and manipulate databases with SQL (Structured Query Language) and database management systems, write computer programs to access and manipulate data files and databases, and work with electronic spreadsheets and database management systems to create models and analyze results. Data visualization tools are used to identify patterns and trends in data. This program prepares students for careers as business analysts, management analysts, data science and big data analysts, and business owners.

Each course for this certificate must be completed with a grade of “C” or better or of "P" if the class is taken on a pass/no pass basis.

Enrollment Completer Projections

Strong enrollment and completion rates are expected as students seek to enhance their career readiness in a digital economy where AI literacy is increasingly essential, as well a data visualization tools.

Program Goal

The program goal is occupational.

All organizations have large amounts of data that need to be synthesized to identify patterns and trends to make business decisions. Students need to understand and use artificial intelligence tools as well as data visualization tools to assist them. With rapid advancements in artificial intelligence and data visualization and their widespread adoption across industries, there is a growing demand for a workforce proficient in both the use and ethical application of AI tools. Employers increasingly prioritize candidates with demonstrated AI competencies, recognizing the value these skills bring to data analysis, problem-solving, decision-making, and operational efficiency.

The Business Data Analytics Associate of Science Degree is designed to meet this demand by providing students with working knowledge of data collection, data processing, and data analysis, and to provide a foundation in training in data science and big data analysis. Students are using AI tools to write, calculate, analyze data, and identify patterns—activities that are becoming integral to both academic and workplace environments. These tools are transforming practices across business, healthcare, education, manufacturing, and the arts to evaluate and synthesize data for their industries.
