This certificate of achievement is a Career Technical Education (CTE) program that prepares students to work in marketing and advertising. The courses in the program have been redesigned to emphasize digital marketing. Social media, digital content creation, and search engine marketing are all now part of this curriculum. The Advertising and Marketing degree at the Associates/Certificate level has already existed at Palomar as the Advertising, Marketing, and Merchandising Degree. As part of the PRP process for the last 4 cycles, the Business Administration department has been working on a strategic re-design of this degree (and a few others) to streamline our offerings and offer students a clear pathway into a General Business degree (non-transfer) with meaningful skills. We have since de-activated the former Advertising, Marketing, and Merchandising Certificate/Degree (>34 units) with anticipation of replacing it with this streamlined version.

MiraCosta endorses based on the COE recommendation, however, appreciates the information related to bachelor's degree requirements.

Palomar College submitted the appropriate LMI from the COE. The COE recommends proceeding with developing a program because 1) a supply gap exists for these occupations and 2) their entry-level and median earnings are above the living wage. Colleges should note that employers require a minimum of a bachelor’s degree for these occupations.
