Program Description:
The Event Operations Certificate is an industry-informed, skills-based program designed to prepare students for operational roles in the fast-growing and diverse event management sector. The certificate offers learners a practical and theoretical foundation in planning, coordinating, and executing a range of events, from corporate meetings and festivals to weddings and exhibitions.
Student Learning Outcomes:
Students who complete the Hospitality Management Program will be able to:
- Assess and apply the concepts of hospitality business management.
- Produce and present effective written and oral communication for the hospitality industry.
- Evaluate ethical leadership and differentiate situations calling for ethical decision-making.
- Demonstrate and articulate a global perspective.

This certificate equips students with the operational knowledge and technical skills necessary to support event production, logistics, customer service, vendor coordination, and on-site management. San Diego Mesa College submitted the appropriate LMI from the COE. The COE recommends proceeding with developing a program because 1) a supply gap exists in the region; 2) on average, the occupations’ entry-level earnings are above the living wage; and 3) there is a high number of annual job openings.
