Folsom Lake College is committed to preparing students for a rapidly evolving workforce by providing rigorous academic pathways and industry-aligned career education programs. In alignment with the mission of the California Community College system, the college develops programs that support completion, transfer, economic mobility, and workforce advancement in high-demand and emerging technology fields.

Generative AI is rapidly transforming industries by enabling machines to produce original content, including images, text, music, and video. Tools like DALL-E, ChatGPT, MidJourney, Gemini, and Copilot are already reshaping creative processes in fields ranging from design and marketing to healthcare and research. In the Sacramento region alone, job postings requiring generative AI and related skills have proliferated, with more than 2,200 postings across nearly 500 employers between 2023 and 2024. High-demand roles include Data Scientists, Software Developers, and AI Specialists, alongside applications in non-tech roles such as marketing, education, and healthcare.

Upon completion of the Applied Generative Artificial Intelligence Program, the student will be able to: explain how artificial intelligence and machine learning is useful in business or career.

  • Investigate current advancements in Generative AI (GenAI) to support informed preparation and application in project contexts.

  • Analyze and apply Generative AI methodologies to accomplish defined project objectives.

  • Design, implement, and evaluate Generative AI and Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG) techniques to achieve specified outcomes.
