The Fundamentals of Fashion Design certificate equips students with the skills to apply fundamental level, industry-standard techniques in garment design and production. Students will gain hands-on experience through practical projects, allowing them to develop a strong foundation in fashion technology, illustration, pattern making, and garment construction.
We anticipate 40 students will complete each year.
Program Proposal Attributes
- Certificate of Achievement: 16 or greater semester (or 24 or greater quarter) units (C)
The Fundamentals of Fashion Design certificate provides students with a comprehensive understanding of the core principles of fashion design, including garment construction, textile selection, and design aesthetics. Students will gain hands-on experience through practical projects, allowing them to develop a strong foundation in fashion technology, illustration, pattern making, and garment construction.

Course Report
Students will take 24 units of required course work that will provide them with a comprehensive understanding of the core principles of fashion design, including garment construction, textile selection, and design aesthetics. In addition, students will take a minimum of two units of elective course
