This certificate prepares students for careers and advancement in the human resources management field.  Human resources specialists work in business and industry, government, and other organizations, including non-profits.  Students become familiar with various approaches to business organization, the strategic nature of human resources, payroll accounting operations, personnel and legal issues.

Graduates may be employed in human resources (recruiting, interviewing, and hiring), benefits administration, compensation, and employee relations.

Enrollment Completer Projections

While this certificate is new, a similar program offered via extension showed over 15 completions per year.  Additionally, our Business Management Certificate shows an average completion rate of over 30 per in the last five academic years.  Therefore, we project to have a minimum of 15 graduates per academic year.

Program Goal

The goal of the Human Resource Management (HRM) Certificate of Achievement is to provide Career Technical Education (CTE) opportunities in human resource management positions. This Certificates emphasizes the development of primarily human resources, management, and business skills, as well as essentials skills in business law and payroll accounting.  Upon completion of this program a students will be able to:

1. Identify core practices and issues in planning, organizing and leading

2. Identify core concepts and techniques in the areas of compensation and benefits, job evaluation, training and development, and performance appraisal.

The proposed certificate is comprised of current courses from established business administration curriculum. The grouping of these courses into a certificate is part of an overall plan for students to gain employment in the high demand field of human resource management.

Program Requirements Narrative

Students will have the opportunity to develop essential human resources, business, law, and accounting skills to enter the job market.  This program will prepare the students to work in human resource management jobs, as well as advance to first level supervisory jobs in the human resources field.  Two of the required business courses, Introduction to Business and Business Law, also prepare our students for transfer to a four-year university. This certificate will significantly improve CTE enrollment, completion, graduation rates, and gainful employment.
