Catalog Description

The Health, Nutrition and Food Sanitation Certificate of Achievement is an entry level CTE program. The Health, Nutrition and Food Sanitation Certificate of Achievement is the initial level for ECE settings. It serves as an indicator for the student’s academic Child Development Portfolio that they have achieved a level of proficiency to work as an associate teacher in a (private or public) ECE setting. Upon completion of the program, the student will be able to utilize a variety of practices and resources to promote individual development, meaningful learning and social cooperation. Also, the student will critically investigate, interpret and analyze results of the strengths and weaknesses of multiple assessment methodologies and know how to use them effectively. Utilize a variety of methods, they systematically observe, monitor, and document children’s activities and behavior, analyzing, communicating, and using the information they decide would improve their work with children, parents, and others. After finishing this certificate, student can apply for their Associate Teacher’s permit that requires 50+ days of three hours and more per day of experience. Lastly, student is required to have a Live Scan and TB test to work with children at a school setting.

To complete the Health, Nutrition and Food Sanitation Certificate of Achievement, students must complete all the program course requirements. It is recommended that students consult with the Counseling Office to develop a Comprehensive Student Educational Plan.

The goal of this program is to prepare students to work successfully as a member of an Early Childhood Education (ECE) setting that also has school-age children. The objective of the program is for students to obtain employment in the public and private schools, as there is a great demand for school-age programs.

This program is a workforce preparation program and prepares students  to work successfully as a member of an Early Childhood Education (ECE) setting. The objective of the program is for students to obtain employment in the public and private schools, as there is a great demand for preschool teachers.
