Catalog Description

1.    The small business sector is one of the most important parts of the United States economy and many people want to become entrepreneurs.  The Small Business Entrepreneurship Level I certificate program can help prospective entrepreneurs launch new ventures or, for an entrepreneur who already has their own business established, the program can strengthen managerial and business skills to help grow the business.

You will learn the fundamentals of starting and operating your own business. The program includes basic business skills as well as specific courses in starting and managing a business. Course work covers evaluating a business opportunity, preparing a business plan, planning advertising and sales promotions, marketing a product or service, and managing the finances for the entrepreneurial company.

Program Learning Outcomes:

At the completion of this program, students will 

1.    Effectively communicate solutions to business problems, using appropriate language and tools and demonstrating understanding of business terms and concepts.

2.    Analyze and recommend effective business decisions/solutions using a systematic, evaluative, and information-based approach.

3.    Develop and exhibit high standards of professional practice, demonstrating awareness of ethical and social responsibilities in today’s multicultural, team-oriented, rapidly-changing global environment.

1.   Program Goals and Objectives:  The Small Business Entrepreneurship Level I Certificate of Achievement is an occupational program designed to prepare students to successfully enter the workforce as an entrepreneur in a short period of time (2 academic semesters, or with the use of short-term 8 week courses a motivated student can complete the program in 1semester).  The Program Learning Outcomes include the following:

Program Requirements Narrative

This Certificate of Achievement requires a total of 18 units.  For the especially motivated student, the certificate can be completed in one semester using short term (5 or 8 week) courses.  The goal will be to encourage as many students as possible to choose this route.  The schedule below is planned for 2 semester completers.
