Catalog Description

The Hairstyling Degree is a comprehensive curriculum that prepares students for a wide range of careers within the beauty industry. The curriculum offers theoretical and practical instruction. Through interactive demonstrations and hands-on applications, students acquire knowledge, language skills for career opportunities in haircutting, hairstyling, sales, and entrepreneurship. Students will understand the importance of professionalism and artistic endeavor in this diverse industry.

California SB 803 has added a Hairstyling License in addition to the existing and revised Cosmetology License. This bill will take effect January 1, 2022.

Outcome 1
Compare and contrast the averages of students passing the California
state licensure quarterly results, through the California Board of
Barbering and Cosmetology school results data.
Outcome 2Pass and complete the program with a passing grade of 75%-C in the three required courses for the hairstyling program.
Outcome 3Evolved workmanship is attained through a combination of required projects, externships, and industry partners' suggestions for entry-level positions.

Program Requirements Narrative

Students receiving this degree must meet the following requirements:

  1. Complete the District General Education Pattern, CSUGE or IGETC.
    If transferring to a CSU or UC students are strongly recommended to complete the CSUGE or IGETC General Education Patterns. Students looking to transfer to an out of state or private college should consult with a counselor for the appropriate GE pattern selection.
  2. Complete with a “C” or better each course as specified by the major.
  3. Maintain an overall GPA of a 2.0 or better in all degree applicable coursework.
  4. Meet the local area requirement of Kinesiology/Dance.
