Master Planning
Within CCSF the proposed program seeks to “contribute to enrollment growth and development of in‐demand programs for degree/transfer and workforce certificates”. Once a locally approved certificate this CTE program has more units required and is more robust thus better falls under a Certificate of Achievement. The demand for stilland digital photography and retouching in the bay area is strong and thus our Industry Advisors encouraged us to train our students accordingly. This low unit certificate (16 units) in PHOT is “stackable” which means the students learning them are also on a path to the AS degree and other certificates should they choose. This certificate can be acquired in three semesters.

Enrollment Completer Projections

Enrollment and Completer Projections

From 2011-Spring 2018 approximately 182 degrees and Certificate of Accomplishments were delivered in PHOT. We are seeking to convert our current CTE programs to Certificate of Achievements.

Bay Area Regional Questions

Goal of Program

CTE & Transfer

Include any other information you would like to share.
This is a unique program serving CCSF and collaborates with other departments (DSGN, VMD, JOURN) Previously we offered a Certificates of “Accomplishment” in this area. There are no other departments offering similar curriculum. Students may transfer to CCA in the 2+2 program with all of these courses. Transfer preparation information: Students prepare to transfer within the CSU system as well as to non-profit private colleges such as CCA. We are part of the 2+2 program within California College of the Arts (see attached). Students can also challenge to waive more courses depending on how much they’ve completed at CCSF PHOTO. See attached 2+2 agreement. Digital Photography Certificate of Achievement Job demand for commercial photography and related occupations in the bay area is on the rise. In the east bay the projection for job increase according to https://www.labormarketinfo.edd.ca.gov is +14.3% and in San Francisco County 9.4%. Our certificates train students to work in the profession and to transfer to four-year colleges. Our alumni are successful entrepreneurs and also working onsite at studios such as Robyn Kessler photography, Sandbox Studios, Williams Sonoma, Airbnb, Instagram and Orange Studio among others. Industry studies According to our Industry Advisors (meeting minutes attached) wage summaries on the “doing what matters” website are low. This might be in part to the fact that they survey lower income companies such as department stores and retail outlets whereas most photographers are independent entrepreneurs or work in the bay area for large studios such as Restoration Hardware, Taylor Brands, Google, Ebay, The Gap, Levis, Sandbox studios etc. **On 11/3 a request for labor market demand and supply data for “Photographer and Digital Technician” was submitted from the Bay Region Center of Excellence and is attached. However attached results are in relation to Digital Photography so share some data. Note – this data does not take into account entrepreneurs or freelancers who are earning wages of $80,000 per year plus according to alumni surveys. https://coeccc.co1.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_5bsVg9uvO1Ym7uR Job advertisements for positions under ‘Photographer”, “Retoucher” Freelance Retoucher: https://www.glassdoor.com/job-listing/freelance-retoucher-rothy-s-JV_IC1147401_KO0,19_KE20,27.htm?jl=2984167469&utm_campaign=google_jobs_apply&utm_source=google_jobs_apply&utm_medium=organic https://www.linkedin.com/jobs/view/beauty-product-photographer-retoucher-at-behance-928206344?utm_campaign=google_jobs_apply&utm_source=google_jobs_apply&utm_medium=organic https://www.linkedin.com/jobs/view/freelance-digital-photo-retoucher-at-stitch-fix-933195820?utm_campaign=google_jobs_apply&utm_source=google_jobs_apply&utm_medium=organic General Search “Studio Photographer”: https://www.indeed.com/jobs?q=photographer&l=san%20francisco&vjk=f5ed25e43ad2c0c1 AND https://careers.williams-sonomainc.com/key/photography-studio.html Photographer’s Assistant https://www.linkedin.com/jobs/view/photographers-assistant-at-iq-946694205/?utm_campaign=google_jobs_apply&utm_source=google_jobs_apply&utm_medium=organic
Please list similar programs at other colleges in the service area which may be impacted, including the name of the college, the name of the program that may be impacted, the name of the person you contacted and the outcome of that contact.
We are the most comprehensive program attracting students from other institutions such at Foothill College, Skyline college and Laney college who have smaller programs but are not as comprehensive and are outside of San Francisco proper. We serve many Industry partners in the bay area such as Google, The Gap, Williams Sonoma, Restoration Hardware, Sandbox Studios, AirBnB among others. San Francisco State University offers a BFA degree in Studio Arts but is not vocationally focused and we serve many of their students. The Academy of Art University offers a degree in Photography however it is over $25,000 a year. City College San Francisco serves a separate urban population.
