Catalog Description

The Data Analyst [Certificate of Achievement/Associate of Science Degree] is designed to develop skills for an increasingly challenging business environment requiring the collection and analysis of data. The program provides students with the skills to work with others to manage large projects, design and manipulate databases with SQL (Structured Query Language) and database management systems, write computer programs to access and manipulate data files and databases, and work with electronic spreadsheets and database management systems to create models and analyze results. This program prepares students for careers in data collection, data processing, and data analysis, and provides a foundation for future training in data science and big data analysis.

Each course for this certificate must be completed with a grade of “C” or better or of "P" if the class is taken on a pass/no pass basis.

Enrollment Completer Projections

Strong enrollment and completion rates are expected as students seek to enhance their career readiness to analyze data. This increase in courses and skills will benefit students as they pursue data analysis careers.

10-15 students annually.

Program Goal

The program goal is occupational.

As a result of the expansion of data analytics and the tools that data science and artificial intelligence use, it became clear that we needed to update/revise the program.

The purpose of the original Data Analyst certificate was to prepare students for positions in data collection, data processing, and data analysis, and to provide a foundation for future training in data science and big data analysis. With the advancement of artificial intelligence tools, students in data analytics/data science are required to use tools to extract trends and patterns that are not readily available.
