Catalog Description

This Program meets the minimum training requirements established by the California Peace Officers Standards and Training for Public Safety Officers.  This Certificate is designed to help prepare law enforcement officers to train and educate new recruits in the patrol function including the importance of officer safety, community service, and understanding the different dynamics presented daily in the patrol environment of law enforcement.

Program Goal

The Public Safety Certificate of Achievement in Field Training Officer is designed to prepare students to meet the needs of mid-level positions involved in the education and training of patrol officers.  The curriculum prepares students with a foundation in law enforcement and provides them with the knowledge required to enter positions related to training law enforcement officers.  The skills developed in these classes will enhance the student's knowledge in the area of training standards and policies, achieving a positive success rate with new recruits, providing a solid foundation in community policing, producing competent, skilled, and dedicated officers who are capable of working in a patrol function, and ensure that new recruits to patrol are able to meet the high standards of their Agency.
