Artificial Intelligence(AI) is the skill of the future. It has been estimated that by 2030, AI market will contribute more than $15 trillion to the world economy. There is a huge skill shortage in the field of artificial intelligence. Artificial Intelligence Foundations certificate of achievement is designed to help learners decode the mystery of artificial intelligence and its business applications. This AI Foundations certificate provides an overview of AI concepts and workflows, knowledge representation and reasoning, human computer interaction, and expert systems. Artificial intelligence will impact all segments of daily life by 2025, with applications in a wide range of industries such as healthcare, transportation, insurance, transport and logistics, and customer service. A role in this domain places you on the path to an exciting, evolving career that is predicted to grow sharply into 2025 and beyond.
Program Learning Outcomes:
Upon completing the Artificial Intelligence (AI)Foundations’ certificate of achievement, learners will be able to:
1. Comprehend what Artificial Intelligence (AI) is and what is the future impact of AI in all segments of daily life.
2. Spot opportunities to apply AI Expert Systems to challenges and problems.
3. Recognize Ethical and societal concerns and discussions surrounding AI.
4. Learn about examples of AI in use today such as self-driving cars, facial recognition systems, military drones, human computer interaction and natural language processors.
The LMI report provided by LAOCRC shows the five-year occupational demand projections for the two occupations of interest. In Los Angeles/Orange County, the number of jobs related to these occupations is projected to increase by 1% through 2024. There will be approximately 7,400 job openings per year through 2024 due to new job growth and replacements. It will introduce career pathways to incoming students and is of interest to GAIN/CalWORKs. Los Angeles Southwest College Computer Science projects a minimum of 30 learners per semester will enroll in this pathway.

The Artificial Intelligence Foundations Certificate of Achievement Goals and Objectives are consistent with the mission of the community colleges under Education Code section 66010.4which states “A primary mission of the California Community Colleges is to advance California’s economic growth and global competitiveness through education, training and services that contribute to the continuous workforce improvement.”
Learners completing this certificate of achievement will acquire a strong foundation on the implication of AI on our future daily life and will recognize opportunity of applying AI solutions to problems and challenges. Learners will understand principles and practices of knowledge representation, including logics, ontologies, common sense knowledge, semantic web technologies, and the manner in which humans interact with, and use, their computers for productive work.
