The Long Beach City College Advanced Transportation Technology Certificate of Achievement is designed to provide students with the knowledge and skills needed for today’s technicians, service writers, and parts support specialists.  The degree is designed to successfully prepare students for employment with entry and mid-level technician, service writer, and parts support specialist positions at dealerships, the ports of Long Beach and Los Angeles, and transit.  The program focuses on the industry standard of fix-it-right scores by providing students with the opportunity to develop skills and resolve real-world customer concerns.

Program Goal

1. Students will analyze and demonstrate their technical knowledge and practical skills to properly and accurately diagnose and repair advanced propulsion systems used in electric, hybrid, and Compressed Natural Gas vehicles.

2. Develop the skills to assess and deduce vehicle drive ability concerns pertaining to advanced transportation technologies.

The Long Beach City College Advanced Transportation Technology Certificate of Achievement is designed to provide students with the knowledge and skills needed for today’s technicians, service writers, and parts support specialists. Specific occupation(s) or field(s) the program will prepare students to enter include: Auto Technician, Mechanic, Diesel Mechanic Service Technician, Truck Mechanic, and Technician 

According to regional Labor Market Information, “The number of jobs for alternative fuels and advanced transportation technology-related occupations are expected to increase by 3% through 2022, resulting in nearly 2,700 annual job openings. One of the occupations studied in this report has entry-level hourly wages below the MIT Living Wage estimate for the county – $ 13.54 per hour for a single adult. In 2017, there were 2,523 employer job ads for occupations identified as the most relevant. Of the job postings that posted a minimum education requirement, 97% listed high school or vocational training. However, between 33% and 35% of the current workforce has some post-secondary coursework and/or training. Between 2014 and 2017, community colleges in the county conferred an average of 815 awards (associate degrees and certificates) in a related training program”
