The Early Childhood Education Paraeducator Certificate of Achievement (COA) provides the coursework necessary to meet the requirements for paraprofessional or instructional aide jobs in TK-3rd grade classrooms. Students who complete this COA are exempt from the required Paraeducator assessment normally required when applying for these positions in public school districts. Select courses in this certificate will be stackable into the Early Childhood Studies COA, Early Childhood Studies AS degree, the Early Childhood Education AS-T, and the Elementary Teacher Education - Integrated Programs AA-T.
60 students will be eligible to apply for the COA in 2026-2027 based on enrollment in the five courses offered at four local high schools.

- Certificate of Achievement: 8 to fewer than 16 semester (or 12 to fewer than 24 quarter) units (B)
The Early Childhood Education Paraeducator Certificate of Achievement will provide high school students with hand-on-experience and professional qualifications to enter the Early Child Education (ECE) field or as instructional aides or paraprofessionals. Oxnard College has collaborated with The Oxnard Union High School District (OUHSD) OUHSD R.E.A.D.Y Apprenticeship program and is currently in the process of offering 5 CDEV/ECE courses at 4 of their high school campuses. These 5 courses include CDEV C1000 Child Growth and Development, ECE R103 Programs for Young Children, ECE R106 Child, Family, and Community, ECE R108 The Exceptional Child, and ECE R129 Child, Nutrition, Health and Safety. The OUHSD has partnered with several agencies in our communities, creating opportunities for employment in school districts and early childcare programs locally. OUHSD's program offers guaranteed job placement consideration: Students are guaranteed an interview with program partners upon completion of this OUHSD program and this COA recognizes student completion on their transcripts.
Upon completion of this program a student will be able to:
- Compare and contrast historically and current early childhood education settings, issues, and perspectives.
- Explain how foundational knowledge of child development and learn theories inform pedagogy and interactions in early care and education settings
- Identify the roles, requirements, and responsibilities of early childcare teachers as professional educators
- Analyze and identify regulations, standards, policies and procedures related to health, safety, and nutrition in early care and education settings
- Identify developmental delays and learn to modify activities for children with special needs

To earn a Certificate of Achievement (COA), a student must complete all courses within the certificate with a grade of "C" or better (or "P").
