Catalog Description
Teaches current federal income tax law as it relates to individuals, corporations, partnerships, estates and trusts. Topics include tax law, electronic research and methodologies and the use of technology for the preparation of business tax returns and include the use of spreadsheets in aiding tax preparation. Prereq: Financial Accounting, recommended: Intermediate accounting. Learning Outcomes: 1. To identify basics of Federal and California income tax law as it relates to Sole Proprietors, Corporate, and Partnerships, Estates, and Trusts. 2. To demonstrate practical knowledge of income tax form preparation and tax compliance process as these relate to Sole Proprietors, Corporate, and Partnerships, Estates, and Trusts.

Program Goal
This program provides students with sufficient knowledge of Federal and State of California tax law to prepare individual and small business tax returns and to obtain an entry-level position as a tax preparer. The certificate is designed for students who desire a quick route to earning an income in the Tax Preparation field (2 semesters) and work for a company such as a CPA firm or a tax preparation company such as Liberty Tax or H&R Block (but may still be required to take proprietary exams). Focus on this Certificate of Achievement is to prepare students to attain passing scores on all 3 parts of the Special Enrollment Examination (SEE) from the Internal Revenue Service & become an enrolled agent.
