Laney serves a population that is outside Hollywood and Silicon Valley, but who want to get inside, and are unprepared for these high-paying high-skilled jobs. The Virtual Production Certificate addresses that problem by training students in Virtual Production. 3D Virtual TV and Film Production has exploded due to the COVID-19 and Hollywood's ongoing need to protect Film and TV cast and crews from environmental hazards.
Together with the Film Production, and Virtual and Augmented Reality skills gained in the many MEDIA department courses at Laney College, this Virtual Production
Certificate will equip students with entry level skills to extremely high paying internships in the TV and Film industry. This Certificate expands upon our Virtual Cinema course and Immersive Design Certificate. Teaches 3D Virtual Film/TV and Virtual Production concepts specifically applied to the Virtual Production field. This Certificate builds upon the existing Virtual Cinema course.

Laney serves a population that is outside Hollywood and Silicon Valley, and who want to get inside, but are unprepared for these high-paying high-skilled jobs. The Virtual Production Certificate addresses that problem by training students in the burgeoning field of Virtual Production for Film/TV and Media. In light of COVID-19 Virtual Production is growing exponentially, as shown by the many unfilled jobs seen daily in the job ads, and news articles. Together with the visual storytelling skills gained in the many MEDIA department courses at Laney College, this Virtual Production Certificate will equip students with entry and Intermediate skills to extremely high paying internships and jobs in the Film and TV industry. See a counselor for more information.
Item 5. Enrollment and Completer Projections
There is no enrollment data for the courses included in the Virtual Production Certificate, as these are new course offerings.
Item 6. Place of Program in Curriculum/Similar Programs
a) There are no active inventory records that need to be changed in connection with the approval of the proposed program.
b) This program does not replace any existing program on the college’s inventory.
c) There are no related programs currently offered by Laney. BCC has two Animation and Game Design AA degrees and curriculum; however these are not Film or TV related, nor are they related to Virtual Production.
Item 7. Similar Programs at Other Colleges in Service Area
BCC has some course content connected to game design. Among the four Peralta campuses, Laney is the only one that plans to offer a CA in Virtual Production. Outside of our district, we cannot find any local community colleges that have a similar program.
