Catalog Description

The Spanish Media Certificate Program will provide students with sufficient background for reporting, writing and production jobs on Spanish-language community newspapers and online publications. The Certificate requires a total of 26-28 units of which 20-21units are in required courses. An additional 6-7 units must be completed from the restricted electives listed below. A minimum grade of “C” is required in each course taken.

Program Goal

With the Hispanic population topping the non-Hispanic population of California in 2015 and with the continued growth of the Latinx market in the United States, having knowledge and understanding of the Hispanic culture and Spanish language is becoming more and more crucial. The greater LosAngeles region continues to be by far the largest Hispanic media market in theUnited States.  This certificate helps to create an area of study that provides background and cultural knowledge while developing and training skills to produce media for this growing market.

California State University, Fullerton, California State University, Northridge and San Francisco State University offer upper-division courses in an aspect of Spanish language reporting, and incorporate it in to their bachelor’s degree programs.
