Basic EMT and Fire Training

The Basic EMS and Fire Training Certificate of Achievement provides the student with a basic understanding of the emergency medical and fire services careers. Coursework includes emergency medical technician instruction and an introduction to the basic fire academy.
We anticipate 15-20 students per year to complete this certificate.
Program Proposal Attributes
- Certificate of Achievement: 8 to fewer than 16 semester (or 12 to fewer than 24 quarter) units (B)
These courses provide the student with training to become an Emergency Medical Technician and prepare them for entry into Fire Academy training to become a Fire Fighter.
Upon successful completion of the program,students will be able to:
- Differentiate between what are and are not the roles and responsibilities of the Emergency Medical Technician.
- Conduct a self-assessment determining ability to complete the physical and aptitude for the basic Firefighter I Academy.

Students must take EMMS 170A and 170B concurrently. It is recommended students also take FPTC 101 in the same semester as preparation for entry into the Basic Fire Academy. However, FPTC 101 can be taken in a different semester.
