The Construction Management program goal is CTE. The goal is to provide students with managerial level skills in the construction industry. These skills are in high demand in the industry and our objective is to address this demand by exposing our students to the required disciplines that are required. New Program
This program fits well within the existing LBCC catalogue. We currently have a Construction Technology Degree aimed at turning out construction workers and contractors in the workforce. Construction management is the next step to take those field level skills into managerial level skills in the trades. With this knowledge, students will broaden their scope of job opportunities within their reach. Construction Inspection is another degree that will soon be offered at LBCC, providing students with supervisorial and enforcement experience in the industry.
There are only 5 community colleges that offer a similar program across all of LA and Orange County. The closest being over 25 miles away. With demand for these skills in the industry increasing, providing opportunities for our local students to be prepared for a managerial level position is crucial. According to LMI data for LA, there is a 10% projected growth for construction managers with 14,560 projected job openings. Orange County LMI projects 7.6% growth with 10,160 projected job openings. There is a need for more workers in this sector, and providing access by offering local training will benefit the diverse students that dawn LBCC.
