Leadership and Social Change

The Leadership and Social Change Certificate of Achievement prepares students to be community leaders, agents of change in the workplace and responsible participants in civic life in general. Students completing this certificate are prepared to work as an entry-level union organizer or staff person at a nonprofit organization. Students who plan to pursue a transfer degree can use the skills obtained to analyze the social forces at work in, and to take leadership in, their areas of work or study. Our Labor Market Analysis report indicates that "There is a projected annual gap of about 7,851 students in the Bay Region and 278 students in the Silicon Valley Sub-Region." With 35 completers per year, it will take us many years to fill that gap.

De Anza College’s Leadership and Social Change certificate meets the needs of both students and employers alike. The goal of this certificate is to prepare students to be leaders who understand the social world around them; understand the political and cultural structures they inhabit; and are prepared to take steps to make the world a better place.De Anza’s Certificate of Achievement in Leadership and Social Change serves several purposes 

It allows the student to feel a sense of accomplishment for having attained this knowledge and skill set. 

It allows students to build their resumes when applying for jobs in areas related to Leadership and Social Change. These jobs might include: union organizer or working at an entry-level job in a non-profit advocacy organization. 

It allows students to build their record for transfer. 

It increases their civic capacity and prepares them to make a difference in their communities and workplaces.
