Supply Chain Management, Certificate of Achievement II

This Supply Chain Management Certificate of Achievement program prepares students to progress in their careers and educational paths in a wide variety of industries that depend on their supply chains. For learners who are currently working, this program will provide them with the knowledge and skills to move up the career ladder to an analyst role or into another back-office function.

The supply chain management courses available in this certificate prepare students to sit for Supply Chain Industry certifications. Courses focus on overall supply chain management, demand planning, inventory control, and warehousing operations. 

Potential careers include logistics analysts; industrial production managers; wholesale and retail buyers; cargo and freight agents; production, planning, and expediting clerks; and brokerage clerks. Supply chain positions are required in many industries and in businesses of many sizes.

A primary mission of the California Community Colleges is to advance California’s economic growth and global competitiveness through education, training, and services that contribute to continuous work force improvement. (Ed Code 66010.4, item 3). This Supply Chain Management Certificate of Achievement supports this mission by assisting students to obtain analyst, buyer, agent or manager positions, or progress along an existing career path, in many industries.

Program level Student Learning Outcomes:

Program Objectives include:

• Analyze communication barriers and prepare methods/means of overcoming such barriers.
• Given a specific business scenario, select the appropriate written medium and prepare an appropriate, concise, and grammatically correct letter, memorandum, and report.
• Prepare and present an effective presentation that uses media and delivery methods appropriate to participants’ needs.

Once a student has earned this certificate, they are on a solid path toward completing an Associate of Science degree in Supply Chain Management. They will also have taken a number of courses on the Business Associate Degree for Transfer patter if they choose to move forward with their education. Local demand for supply chain expertise means that they could progress on a career path from an entry-level position to a staff or back-office position.

This Supply Chain Management Certificate of Achievement is to create an additional pathway to achieve a certificate in Supply Chain management. This additional pathway aligns coursework with the new Supply Chain Apprenticeship for Learning & Employment (SCALE) program. Courses in this new program are align and can be stack with other courses to provide a pathway for students to earn a Supply Chain Management Associates Degree.

College Mission: Coastline College guides diverse populations of students toward the attainment of associate degrees and certificates leading to career advancement, personal empowerment, and transfer. By meeting students where they are, Coastline provides innovative instruction and services designed to achieve equitable outcomes.

The Supply Chain Management Certificate of Achievement aligns with Coastline College’s mission by clarifying a pathway that “guides diverse populations of students toward the attainment of associate degrees and certificates leading to career advancement, personal empowerment, and transfer.” This also aligns with Coastline’s Educational Master Plan goals of Student Success, Completion, and Achievement and Instructional and Programmatic Excellence. These goals blend directly with college mission statement that states “Coastline provides innovative instruction and services designed to achieve equitable outcomes.”

The Supply Chain Management Certificate of Achievement aligns with the California Community College Chancellor’s Office Vision for Success Goals related to completion of degree completion, decreasing the number of units completed, and increase Career Education student employment rates. These outcomes are associated with the structured pathway of the program and courses that align with a variety of above average pay, middle-skills jobs for students entering the workforce or returning for career advancement.

The Centers of Excellence, in their November 2025 Program Endorsement Brief for this program, notes that over the 12 months preceding, there were 10,453 online job postings related to supply chain management occupations. The highest number of job postings was for logisticians, transportation, storage, and distribution managers.

The Supply Chain Certificate of Achievement program requirements are consistent with the above catalog description.

No. This is a new that contains a smaller subset of courses from an existing Certificate of Achievement. 

c)    What related programs are offered by the college?

Business pathways in the areas of general business, human resources, and marketing exist at the college. Certificates in Supply Chain Management are also available at the college, but this 9-unit certification is specifically designed to align with an apprenticeship program.

All other college in the county provide some form of management certificate. None of the college in the county provides a Supply Chain Management certificate of degree. However, within the region, demand for supply chain management professionals remains high as this specialize program supports a skill set needed across many industries.

The student leaning outcomes and objectives of two courses within this specialized certificate prepared students to take industry certifications. Additionally, the curriculum in the program aligns with the competencies that were submitted to Division of Apprenticeship Standards (DAS) and approved by the U.S. Department of Labor (DOL). By aligning the certificate with industry certifications and apprenticeship standards will give employers confidence that candidates with this certificate are prepared to make an immediate impact when hired.

The Coastline Certificate is differentiated from the other offerings in that it has been offered in a fully online format for over a decade. The online content is continually refreshed, and core courses have been updated to ensure continued quality of regular and substantive interaction and accessibility. As electives, students can explore foundations in human interaction, workplace communication, and public expression, which will help students will gain the ability to communicate with clarity and confidence, collaborate effectively in teams, and navigate workplace relationships to enhance career success.
