Catalog Description
This course meets the minimum training requirements established by the California State Fire Marshal’s Office for individuals entering a management position within a Fire agency. This course provides an introduction to the principles of command, an overview of the concepts of command safety and the risk management process, pre-incident planning considerations, command considerations at structure fire incidents, Company Officer initial actions at an incident including the development of incident priorities, information on the roles and responsibilities of a Company Officer for post-incident actions. Each student will have the opportunity to gain experience in a controlled environment through structure fire incident simulations.

Program Goal
The goal of the Company Officer Certificate of Achievement is to prepare the student for the administrative levels of fire management for both urban and wildland protection as mandated by the State Fire Marshal’s Office for the State of California. The training courses are intended to teach the student how to manage and supervise other firefighters in all aspects of emergency service’s activities including strategy and tactics for all types of responses. The goal is to promote knowledge in various mid-level management positions including supervising and supporting operations, setting organizational policy, planning and implementing community fire and EMS delivery services, and preparing administrative budgets. Learning to manage and supervise others in firefighting and emergency services activities is generally the prime objective of company-level officer development.
