THIS IS NOT A NEW PROGRAM. PROGRAM GRANDFATHERED IN AND WE NEED THE ENDORSEMENT IN ORDER TO SUBMIT TO STATE. 

The Banking and Finance program introduces students to broad range of banking and finance including asset and liability management, financial decision making, financial markets and institutions, and gain practical knowledge of the core principles of accounting and economics. Coursework will include: 1) an overview of banking system; 2) specific banking functions and the role of banking in the economy; 4) review legal and regulatory issues, including compliance; and 5) explore the Federal Reserve System's policies and operations.

Item 1.            Program Goals and Objectives

The Associate of Science in Banking and Finance degree prepares students to acquire a solid foundation in the banking, finance, and investment industry. Classes emphasize banking operations, identifying financial resources, and strategy to successfully invest. Students will develop analytical and problem solving skills to contribute effectively in a work environment. 

 

Program Outcomes

 

·        Apply appropriate critical and problem solving skills to a banking situation dealing with services banks provide to the public

·        Critique the functions of money and evaluate which functions holds the greatest significance.

·        Investigate the technology advances in the bank’s cash management systems, and evaluate the strength and weakness of each system.

The data shows a robust growth in the number of students at Laney College who are in majors that require rigorous training in lower-division computer science courses.

Item 15.          Library and/or Learning Resource Plan

 

Computers are an important topic in any library; Laney’s offerings have been and should continue to be sufficient for our needs.

 

Item 16.          Facilities and Equipment Plan

 

Laney College remains committed to maintain state-of-the-art computer labs. This semester we replaced all of our computers to use the latest hardware and software. The lab is supported by two staff members who keep the facilities current and running.

 

Item 17.          Financial Support Plan

 

The source of support for ordinary costs of instructions will be covered by the general funds available for instruction of courses through the Peralta District. Instructional equipment grants, primarily Perkins funds for CTE programs have been used, and will continue to be used for purchase of new and updated equipment.

 

Item 18.          Faculty Qualifications and Availability

 

The program is part of the Business department in the Human and Social Sciences division of Laney College.  The BUS faculty at Laney College currently consists of 4 full time instructors and 4 adjunct instructors.  All faculty members meet the Minimum qualifications for BUS department faculty.

Item 20.          Licensing or Accreditation Standards

 

All courses taught at Laney College for the program meet accreditation standards for Laney College. Courses will articulate for elective units with transfer institutions but do not necessarily transfer course to course. There are no licensing standards being satisfied by these courses.
