| The Child Development and Educational Studies Associate in Arts Degree (CDES AA) prepares students for employment in education or other field in human services. This degree provides a foundation in developmental psychology, education, and human services, preparing students for careers or advanced study in fields related to working with children and families. This degree also prepares students majoring in CDES for transfer to a four-year institution. The Child Development and Educational Studies Associate in Arts Degree includes 24 units, in addition to other graduation requirements. | |

| The Child Development and Educational Studies Associate in Arts Degree (CDES AA) prepares students for employment in education or other field in human services. This degree provides a foundation in developmental psychology, education, and human services, preparing students for careers or advanced study in fields related to working with children and families. The program outcome goals for students completing the program are: |
- Outcome: Apply elements of various curriculum models, approaches, theories, and standards for early learning including indicators of quality to plan and individualize curriculum for children ages birth through eight.
- Outcome: Analyze and compare the development across the physical, psychosocial, and cognitive domains of child development, including both typical and atypical patterns, and synthesize this knowledge to form a comprehensive understanding of child development.
- Outcome: Explain, critique and evaluate historical perspectives of education based upon current early educational perspectives.
- Outcome: Compare, in a critical manner, the purpose, value and application of formal and informal observation and assessment strategies and their ethical implications within cultural and social contexts in early childhood settings.
- Outcome: Analyze theories of socialization that address the interrelationship of child, family, school, and community and describe the impact on the child within various family forms, schools, and agencies that are available within the community.
- Outcome: Differentiate indicators of developmental differences across all three domains and identify the primary role of families, their unique needs, culture, and traditions by developing sensitive and respectful communication, care practices and teaching partnerships.
- Outcome: Examine the impact of various societal influences and issues influenced by systemic oppression, on the development of children’s personal and social identity.
