This certificate of achievement prepares students for work in the data science industry and for further study. Students discover how to harness the potential of big data to uncover valuable insights and enhance decision-making for practical challenges. Students acquire practical skills in data organization and presentation, programming, machine learning, statistical analysis, and other areas essential for the data science profession.
Enrollment completer projections approximately 30 based on LMI data from other colleges and similar majors.
Program Proposal Attributes

- Certificate of Achievement: 16 or greater semester (or 24 or greater quarter) units (C)
Data Science Certificate of Achievement provides students with a foundation in data analysis, in which students will model, synthesize, and present large data sets for business decision making. Courses will focus on the techniques and tools to extract data from various data sources, model, integrate data, and visualize data for organizational decision making and intelligence gathering. The program prepares students for entry-level jobs, or to help them advance into careers, such as Operation Data Analyst, Business Analytics Specialist, System Data Analyst, Data Visualization Developer, Test Data Analyst, and Market Research Analyst. Topics covered will include statistics, research methods, SQL queries, systems analysis, design, and applied predictive analytics.

There are no similar programs at Rio Hondo
LACC, Mt. SAC, PCC, and Santa Monica CC all have a similar program structure to each other. Some call it Data Analytics and other Data Science but all of these programs are lacking the math foundation of Calculus that would ready students for this field.
Cerritos and Citrus do not currently have any data science or analytics programs.
