Forestry Conservation Associate in Science

The Forestry Conservation Associate in Science Degree (60 units total, 33 units in the major) is designed to prepare students for work in the broad industry of forestry, climate, and conservation. Upon successful completion of the program, students demonstrate mastery of forest ecology, fire ecology, fire ecology and fuels management practices, western and indigenous land management practices, conservation practices, and technical skills. These skills can be applied to careers in land management agencies, park ranger positions, forestry, natural resources, climate industries, and conservation technicians.
Courses required for the major at Cerro Coso Community College may not be the same as those required for the major at a four-year school. Students who plan to transfer should consult a counselor or advisor and http://www.assist. org/ to identify the courses needed for the major at the transfer school and to develop an education plan.
Students must complete a minimum of 60 units, including the courses listed in the major and general education requirements, with an overall GPA of 2.0 or better, and a grade of “A,” “B,” or “C,” (or "P" if the class is taken on a pass-no pass basis) in all courses for the major. A minimum of 12 units must be completed at Cerro Coso Community College. Completion of the Cerro Coso local general education pattern does not prepare students for transfer.
Students should consult with a counselor or educational advisor regarding general education options.
This program anticipates 10-15 annual completers.

This program goal is career technical education and meets the college mission by providing innovative delivery methods and critically needed workforce education through community partnerships. The Cerro Coso Community College Master Plan includes expansion of programming specific to Tehachapi and Eastern Sierra College Center with extensive community input, cross-sector partnerships, available workforce funding, legislative directives, and Chancellor's Office alignment. It also fulfills the defined goals of the public service annual unit plans in the area of forestry and outdoor recreation. This program has been developed in conjunction with multiple other programs across the industry sectors identified by federal, state, and local initiatives. The curriculum development process included Public Services Advisory committee input and voting, paid professional curriculum expert input, and regional Memorandum of Understanding development with public agencies.
