Catalog Description

The Accounting degree is designed for students planning to seek accounting positions in business, industry, or government upon completion of the required course of study. The program also meets the needs of individuals seeking to learn applications of accounting theory as practiced in the field. The program provides individuals with the foundation to prepare financial statements and record business transactions for all types of business and industry. Students develop a strong knowledge base of U.S. Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and accounting procedures. Communication skills, teamwork, computer technology, and ethical behavior are also emphasized.

Program Requirements Narrative

This associate degree in accounting will teach students accounting and business fundamentals along with skills required for entry-level positions in the accounting field, such as: budgeting, tracking of financial information, and assistance in the compilation and reporting of financial statements and other data needed for business decisions.
 
Furthermore, it aligns with universities and allows students to transfer in the units needed towards a 4-year degree.

Santa Rosa Junior College also offers a certificate in accounting. However, this certificate only requires accounting classes, whereas this associate degree includes many other courses in business and economics, creating a more well-rounded foundation of both accounting and business knowledge and skills.

Mendocino College offers both an Accounting Associate of Science Degree and an Accounting Certificate of Achievement.  College of Marin does not have a program for accounting.  Napa Valley College has a specific department for Accounting, offering an Accounting (AS) degree and an Accounting-Bookkeeping Certificate of Achievement. Mendocino and Napa Valley Colleges were contacted on 8.27.24 - no response was received (documentation of communication attempt available).
