The Hospitality Management Certificate of Achievement prepares students for entry- to mid-level positions in the Hospitality Industry. It also prepares students for entrepreneur opportunities in the hospitality field. The certificate provides students with the knowledge and training necessary to succeed in the hospitality industry. Courses are designed for students who desire a career in the hospitality industry within the following sectors: hotel/lodging management, food and beverage management, entertainment and recreation management, and meeting, convention, and event management. Some areas within the hospitality sectors may include reservations, front office, purchasing, lodging, event planning, and tourism services. A Certificate of Achievement is awarded upon completion of all required courses (18 units) with a grade of C or better.
Student Learning Outcomes
Upon completion of the programs, students will be able to:
- Describe the relationship of human/social need for hospitality services.
- Define the goals of various hospitality elements and related products and services.
- Describe the service relationship in terms of psychological needs and social-psychological experiences.
- Define the basic role of business in the field of hospitality. Identify major challenges to the hospitality industry.
- Describe opportunities for entry and advancement in the hospitality field. Identify key qualities, philosophies, or experiences associated with success in the field.
Enrollment projections for a two year period is estimated to be 130 students. The projected certification completion rate for a two year period will be approximately 50-60 awards.
Program Proposal Attributes
- Certificate of Achievement: 16 or greater semester (or 24 or greater quarter) units (C)
The program goal is occupational and students completing the program can obtain an entry level position in the Hospitality industry field, advance within the field, or pursue opening their own hospitality business. Additionally, they can continue to pursue a degree in the field if desired. This Certificate of Achievement that is stackable to the Hospitality Management Associate of Science (AS-T) degree that already exists at LA Pierce College.

The Hospitality Management certificate program provides students with recognition through a certificate of achievement. Additionally, this certificate is a step toward completing our existing Hospitality Management AS-T program and it provides our students with multiple Pathways in order to achieve higher median paying jobs.

As required by the LARC Program Recommendation Process, which is outlined on the LARC Program Recommendation webpage (https://losangelesrc.org/program-recommendation/), the LA Workforce Council Voting Members must be included in the collegial consultation process for new programs.
