Program Goal

The Healthcare Business CTE Certificate program will provide the preparation for entry level positions within the insurance business industry and could also support upskilling of existing workers to attain career mobility and become competitive in this industry.

The public sector and private sector organizations employ claims processors to improve workflow of the claims processes and provide information to patients/clients.  Medical insurance companies, large hospital providers, California State/Federal entities and smaller care delivery clinics employ claims processors to analyze a medical claim and to communicate with the patient through the process.  This certificate is to support duties in claims processing/claims representatives that will utilize the medical coding information submitted by medical clinics, hospitals and care providers.  The coursework supports key fundamental content for a health administration degree at the bachelor’s level.

The course work will support content that can lead to the following certification: Certified Professional Biller (CPB) certification which prepares for the knowledge of how to submit claims compliant with government regulations and private payer policies. They follow-up on claim statuses, resolve claim denials, submit appeals, post payments and adjustments, and manage collections. The CPB medical billing certification is vital to the financial success of the professional healthcare services claims process.
