Program Goal
The Engineering Technology program at Long Beach City College provides students with the fundamentals of engineering technology. These are needed to provide students with a successful pathway through High School, Community College and finally into University Engineering Technology Programs. This program is designed to allow students to work in high school in Project Lead The Way sanctioned courses and provide those students the ability to receive college credit by examination. While at Long Beach City College, those students work deeper into engineering technology concepts with exposure to advanced manufacturing technology. The courses are designed for creating technical talent to meet tomorrow’s needs in a highly competitive and automated industrial workforce and provide the student the ability to transfer to University Engineering Technology Programs. Students will have the necessary technical skills, knowledge, and attitude to succeed in this rapidly changing field. In addition to training in CNC machine tools, students will learn engineering concepts such as Materials Science, Engineering Electronics and Principles of Engineering. This program was designed in consultation with our industry advisory board and LBUSD and is in response to their requests for a program covering the engineering skills needed by technicians and provide them with a 2+2+2 transfer pathway in Engineering Technology. This new program is in direct response to our partner needs.
