Catalog Description

The Associate in Science in Pre-Human Nutritional Science is designed for students who plan to transfer to Fresno State to complete a bachelor's degree in Human Nutritional Science.  Upon completion of the Associates in Science in Pre-Human Nutritional Science the students will be able to demonstrate knowledge of the relationship of nutrients and lifestyle factors and the associated risk of chronic disease. Students will demonstrate knowledge of physiological processes such as digestion, absorption, transport and metabolism of nutrients. Students will recognize and separate scientifically supported information from misinformation. Students will identify ways in which social factors influence food related choices, practices, and beliefs.

Enrollment Completer Projections

Currently students going this pathway are being counseled in a variety of ways.  Some have completed Biology AS degrees, some have completed Liberal Studies AS degrees and some have transferred with coursework but did not complete a degree due to the issues with the course alignment.  It is difficult to guess how many students, however since I do personally know many of the students there should be a few each year.  There's about 3 students getting the ADT each year and probably about that many transferring in other ways.  This degree will also meet eligibility for the Certified Dietary Manager (CDM) exam, which will likely add even more students to use this AS degree.  A modest projection is somewhere around 6-10 students per year.

Pre-Human? The title reads a little odd to me, but I see that it is leading into a BS degree or Human Nutritional Science.
